Workbook 4. Racism, Equality & Slavery KS3

 Welcome to Workbook 4: Racism, Equality & Slavery, designed specifically for Key Stage 3 (KS3) pupils. This workbook aims to educate students about the importance of respecting differences, understanding historical contexts, and promoting equality.

Lesson 3: The Civil Rights Movement Students learn about key figures and events of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. The lesson emphasizes the significance of nonviolent protest and civil disobedience in achieving social change.

Lesson 4: Equality: What Does It Mean? This lesson defines equality and differentiates between equality of opportunity and equality of outcome. Students discuss the barriers to equality faced by different groups in society and brainstorm ways to create a fairer environment.

Lesson 5: Microaggressions and Implicit Bias Students explore the concepts of microaggressions and implicit bias, learning how these subtle actions and unconscious beliefs can impact individuals and communities. The lesson encourages self-awareness and strategies to counteract bias.

Lesson 6: Allyship and Anti-Racism This lesson focuses on the role of allyship in promoting racial justice. Students identify actions they can take to be effective allies and support those who are treated unfairly because of their race.

Lesson 7: Building a More Equal Future Students reflect on the lessons learned throughout the workbook and brainstorm ideas for promoting equality and combating racism in their own lives. The lesson emphasizes the importance of small actions in creating a more inclusive and respectful world.
